Cristiano Ronaldo has won a libel case against The Daily Telegraph.
In July 2008 the newspaper made allegations that the player put his recovery from an injured ankle at risk by going to a night club in Los Angeles and dancing without his crutches as well as drinking alcohol.
Ronaldo’s lawyers succesfully argued that the allegations were not true and caused offence and embarrassment.
Following the verdict the player Tweeted the following statement:
“I am delighted with the court's decision. I take enormous pride in my professionalism, and take my training and recovery from injury very seriously. I would have never acted in the manner I was accused of, and felt no choice but to pursue legal action.”
The Daily Telegraph’s solicitor, Helen Morris, said that the paper accepted that the accusations towards the player were not true and that it will apologise.
Ronaldo has also accepted an undisclose amount of libel damages.
