European Golden Shoe weekly update: Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo both score

Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi doubled his lead over Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo in the Golden Shoe Standings when he converted from the spot in Saturday's Clasico to gift the Catalans a 1-0 lead over their rivals. Nevertheless, Ronaldo matched his rival by finding the net himself from 12 yards to score his 29th La Liga goal of the season, only one goal less than the Argentine. Elsewhere, Edinson Cavani should have scored his 26th goal of the season in the 2-1 loss against Udinese, but the highly rated attacker failed to add his name to the score sheet from the spot. Bayern Munich hitman Mario Gomez was the undisputed star of the weekend as the Germany international netted a hat-trick to help FCB to a 5-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen. Gomez has now scored 22 league goals. Furthermore, Lille's Moussa Sow scored once to move to joint sixth spot in the standings, while Antonio Di Natale, Dimitar Berbatov, Papiss Cisse, Kenny Miller and Carlos Tevez all failed to score due to various reasons.
