Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo: We played poorly, but win over Osasuna was vital

Cristiano Ronaldo has acknowledged that Real Madrid did not play well in their slender 1-0 victory over Osasuna on Saturday evening, but added that the most important thing now is to win matches.

The Portuguese missed two golden opportunities to score, and in the end compatriot Ricardo Carvalho stepped up, slamming home from inside the box for the only goal of the game.

Speaking after the match, Ronaldo admitted that the performance had not been of a high standard, but that he was happy to notch the first win of the season.

He commented: “We are pleased to win. We also know that Barcelona have lost, but more important was that we begin to win matches. We did not play great, but the important thing now is to win.

“I felt good. I’ve tried to do better but after 12 days without training it was good to play. I am very happy that Carvalho has scored. We are Portuguese team-mates. I am happy for him and the team.”

Los Blancos’ next outing is versus Ajax in the opening Champions League clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.
