Cristiano Ronaldo will be absent from the Spain/Portugal delegation in Zurich for Thursday's World Cup vote due to injury.
Real Madrid star Ronaldo is struggling with an ankle injury and the world's most expensive player will remain in Spain to receive treatment on the problem in a bid to be fit to face Valencia in La Liga this weekend.
The Portugal captain had been set to go to Switzerland to support the Candidatura Iberica bid to host the 2018 World Cup but he has been forced to stay in the Spanish capital.
Other figures set to support the Iberian bid are Ronaldo's team-mate Iker Casillas, captain of World Cup winners Spain, plus the current coaches of the two national teams Vicente del Bosque and Paulo Bento, and famous former players such as Luis Figo, Fernando Hierro, Emilio Butragueno and Eusebio.
The Prime Ministers of the respective countries, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero of Spain and Jose Socrates of Portugal, are also part of the bid team.
