Cristiano Ronaldo Set To Play In Champions League Against Lyon

Cristiano Ronaldo is now expected to start mid-week in Champions League against Lyon, according to reports. The Real Madrid attacker was considered doubtful for the clubs' second leg after injuring his thigh on March 3 against Malaga in Liga action. He has not played since, but with an original injury time line speculating 10 to 14 days out of the team, the Portuguese star appears set to return at the short end of that spectrum.

According to Madrid manager José Mourinho, Ronaldo will not be "100 percent," and if the match had to be played this weekend, the Merengues leading scorer would be unable to go. However, Mourinho is confident that training through the weekend will see Ronaldo sufficiently fit to start Wednesday's match at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Last season, Lyon came to the Bernabeu for the second leg of the teams' Round of 16 match, eventually eliminating Real Madrid 2-1 after a late Miralem Pjanic goal. This year, the clubs are even at one after the first leg at Stade Gerland, Karim Benzema and Bafetimbi Gomis exchanging second half goals.

Ronaldo is not the only star who looks to return from an injury doubt. Lisandro Lopez, who missed the first leg, is set to feature, recording a hat-trick this weekend in his return from injury.
